“The Play Factory”
ARCH601
Fall 2024

This project explores the adaptive reuse of a formerly industrial building in the 12th arrondissement in Paris by transforming the building’s identity in the neighborhood into a new hub for vulnerable populations into an accessible urban playscape. As part of an expanded intergenerational care program for E.S.A.T (non-profit for disabled workers in France), the intervention dissolves the industrial intensity of the factory with nature, light, comfort, and play. Drawing from the threads of the existing arts community in the neighborhood, this proposal redefines the notion of productivity from manufacturing objects to nurturing ideas, people, and a culture of care for all.
