"Lifecycles of the Ground"
ARCH 402
Spring 2023
By imagining buildings as records of intertwining lifecycles of material and social energies, this project proposes to create new relationships between existing materials and the territories of extraction, production, transportation, assembly and maintenance. A critique of the social costs precipitated by contemporary construction processes, this approach to preservation aims to reclaim and expose the complex histories of building materials in Mexico City. To counter the environmental ramifications of hard infrastructure, this project presents a reimagination of a ground that extends lifecycles of use for new construction that is necessary for increasing affordable housing in the city.
